About Fidget’s rental discounts

Fidget has always offered a student discount, both for renting space and for tickets to performances. In February 2021 the idea of offering a discounted rental rate for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) artists was proposed to us by a member of our community. We brought this idea to Fidget’s Committee for Anti-Racism and Equity (made up of Fidget staff and Board members) and decided to implement it in May 2021. 

This also sparked the idea of offering the same discount to our neighbors in Kensington, part of a longer process of acknowledging that Fidget Space’s presence as a predominantly white arts organization in Kensington has and does contribute to the gentrification of the neighborhood. We are working to develop more intentional & active practices to engage in our local community. 

We acknowledge that offering a rental discount to our neighbors and BIPOC artists is a small step in a larger process of working to make Fidget more equitable and accessible.
