Hybrid Events at Fidget Space: What to Expect

Last Updated April 23, 2021

Following local health guidelines in Philadelphia, Fidget has begun welcoming limited in-person audiences into our space for select events. These events will also have a virtual option.

As artists and cultural workers, we know we have a critical role to play in how our society transitions out of the isolation we’ve been experiencing for the past many months. We’re following the lead of other arts organizations & institutions in our community who have started successfully and safely opening their spaces, including The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Barnes Foundation, and Urban Movement Arts. If you are interested in learning more about why we think it’s important to hold hybrid events right now, please scroll down to the bottom of this page.

Read on for details on what to expect when attending an event In Person at Fidget Space.

We are following the current City of Philadelphia guidelines for ‘Indoor live theater, music venues, and movie theaters’.

What We’re Doing:

-Limiting the number of people in the space for hybrid events based on the 10-people-per one-thousand-square-feet guideline. For Fidget, the cap is 20 people in our space for hybrid events, including performers, staff, and audience members. The limited amount of tickets available for each event will vary depending on the number of artists and staff that are involved in the event.

-Requiring and strictly enforcing mask wearing for everyone in the space, including performers. In addition, we will be encouraging all in person participants to double mask, and will be providing information about this as well as disposable medical masks at hybrid events.

-Using tape and other visual cues to encourage audience members to stay at least 6 feet apart when entering Fidget Space and during the event.

-Using no-contact registration methods. All registrations for hybrid events will be made online, ahead of time. A registration will be required to enter the space, no walk-ups.

-Providing hand sanitizer at multiple points throughout the space.

-Collecting phone numbers from all guests for contact tracing.

-Communicating these guidelines to everyone who registers to attend a hybrid event in person.

What We Ask of You:

-If you register to attend an event in person but you are feeling unwell, PLEASE STAY HOME. We are happy to offer you a full refund for your ticket. Please let us know as soon as you can, so that we can offer your spot to someone else. You can email us if you need to cancel your reservation (katherine@thefidget.org).

-Follow all the guidelines as outlined above, specifically the mask wearing and social distancing.

-Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

More on why we think it’s important to hold hybrid events right now…

At Fidget, we believe that the ritual of gathering together in person to cultivate meaningful experiences is crucial to our humanity. And right now, in many ways (including in how we gather together) we’re in a time of transition. In the words of Andrew Simonet, a writer and choreographer in Philadelphia, “Transitions are our strength. Artists spend a lot of time on borders, collisions, gradients, boundaries, endings and beginnings…”

We know that what we do in this transitional moment will affect the way that we gather and come together in the future. We feel a deep responsibility to participate in preserving and reinventing these rituals of gathering as part of our emerging future. Beginning to open safely and responsibly is one way we can begin putting this future into action.
