We all have complicated relationships to technique, and questions about which one(s) are right for our own bodies and the performance practice that we engage with most regularly. This class series encompasses that line of questioning and proposes frameworks and reference points, not rigid answers.
Back to basics
Tuesdays July 12, 19, & 26, 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Any type of physical or generally body-aware performer should come take this class!
Back to Basics will introduce or refresh basic embodied knowledge of bony structures, lines of force, staying upright, folding, and how to strengthen the right muscles to support you through all of this. Slow, deep, stretching and strengthening exercises progress to simple movement combinations and open structures, gradually building speed through repetition of pattern and rhythm. All levels are welcome!
Grounding, Sequencing, and Soaring
Thursdays July 14, 21, & 28, 6:30-8:00 p.m.
This class is geared toward professional dancers or serious students.
It feels so good to do old school technique sometimes! Who’s with me on this? We’ll work through a mostly-upright (weight-shifting, spine-sequencing, rotators-warming, extension-improving) warmup in the center, juice it up with a lengthening adagio, then move big across the floor with a space-eating triplet combo. If there’s time we’ll move into more complex layered movement phrases incorporating gesture and jumps…bring your favorites to contribute!
