About:
The Remix Festival aims to interrogate the questions surrounding current intellectual property laws and the art of borrowing via choreography. It will offer audiences a chance to engage directly with choreography, not just as a finished dance but as a way of thinking. Curated by Annie Wilson and Susan Rethorst, the festival aims to situate the works of dance artists based in Philadelphia with choreographers from other cities. All involved artists assemble, meet, re-imagine, and perform each others’ dances in the course of five days.
Philly makers Susan Rethorst, Gregory Holt, Chelsea Murphy and Magda San Milan will each show an original complete work, as well as remix an out-of-towner’s piece. Choreographers John Jesurun, Jen Rosenblit, Meredith Bove and Rachel Slater will travel to thefidget space to premiere a work in Philly as well as remix a local choreographer’s dance. Each artist has less than 10 hours to step into a near-stranger’s work and to adapt, alter, reassemble, and re-create something new. There will be a 7:00 p.m. showing of the original works followed by a catered break (think cheese and wine), and then the remixed pieces will be premiered at 8:30 p.m.

WORKSHOP WITH JEN ROSENBLIT*
Sunday, May 4th (10AM-2PM)
$25, open to the community
Mascher Space Co-op (155 Cecil B. Moore Ave)
*Look at me Don’t Look at me* is a performance-based workshop for anyone who considers or questions the body and all it’s multiplicity. Each participant should come prepared with something; a text, an idea, a concept, an extremely set 4.5 minute solo on point shoes, a conversation, an image, a memory ….SOMETHING THAT YOU HAVE BEEN IN RELATION TO LATELY. Approaching experimentation, feelings and performance as a culture rather than aesthetic or technique, this workshop will locate (dis)organization as both a somatic and political gesture.
