Kelly Bond and Melissa Krodman began working together in 2010 on Kelly’s experimental dance trio Elephant, which was also the piece that began their relationship with thefidget space. Their 2012 duet Colony, which they co-choreographed and continue to perform, has been presented in Philadelphia (thefidget space, Thirdbird, Philly Fringe), Washington D.C. (Capital Fringe, FallFringe), New Orleans (NOLA Fringe), Atlanta (The Lucky Penny/Theatre Emory), and Sweden (Abundance International Dance Festival). They were 2014 resident artists of The Breaking Ground Series at Theatre Emory in Atlanta, GA, and are excited to be 2014-2015 artists-in-residence with thefidget space. They are using this residency to develop their new piece, Jean and Terry: Your Guides Through Dark, Light, and Nebulous, delving into phenomena of Universal Consciousness. They are working with Philly-based theatre artists Mark McCloughan and Jaime Maseda of No Face Performance Group and expect to premiere the work in Fall 2015.
Adam Vidiksis is a frequent performer at <fidget>, and often participates in the many wonderful discussion groups held there. His work has been heard at <fidget>’s Fall Experimental Music Festivals, their demonstration event during Philly Tech Week, and other various concerts. Vidiksis is currently researching the role of remix and re-composing in musical creativity, both historically and contemporarily, and the effect of current copyright laws on the exchange of musical ideas. As this season’s Artist-in-Residence for music, Vidiksis will be using his time at <fidget> to collaborate with a number of other musicians, dancers, actors, and visual artists to explore these concepts in a series of workshops, concerts, and discussions. The creative jumping point for these projects spring from Vidiksis’s recent research on the work on the imminent electronic music pioneer, John Chowning. His iconic work, Stria (1977), was originally composed in MUS10, a programming language now defunct. The functionality of the original code was almost lost to time, but thanks to the excellent work of Kevin Dahan of the Université Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée, the code was ported to Csound, a language still commonly used. Vidiksis was tasked with recomposing the work, altering and reworking the source code itself, and the product was presented to Chowning in a concert in Boston last fall. Vidiksis will continue this research and compositional study during his residency at <fidget>, exploring other works by Chowning, as well as the work of electroacoustic composer Jean-Claude Risset.
