thingNY
The New Yorker’s Alex Ross listed thingNY as part of the city’s burgeoning avant-garde classical music scene “striking an attitude of resistance to mainstream culture.” Comprised of performers from the NYC metro area, thingNY creates and performs theatrically charged experimental music and collaborative fluxus-esque multimedia works, which have included collaboratively-created chamber operas, a radio play by Beckett, a theatre piece in the form of a 300-page hardcover tome, and over two hundred premieres of new music and performance pieces. thingNY is currently touring their verbose two-man opera “Jeff Young and Paul Pinto, Patriots, Run for Public Office on a Platform of Swift and Righteous Immigration Reform, Lots of Jobs, and a Healthy Environment”, performing at the 2013 New Dischord Festival, collaborating on a new multimedia chamber opera, developing a new work with composer Jerome Kitzke and in 2014, the ensemble will record and release an interactive, online album version of their project, In-House and perform in New Music Edmonton’s 2013-14 season.
