In person at the Fidget Space.

Event Description:
The Alt.terre works explicitly towards things that evade language. How do you choreograph states of consciousness? How do you make those states perceivable to the audience? Can altered states be contagious? These are some of the things we are trying to grapple with in our creative process. It feels like we are collectively striving to touch the ineffable. In this piece, five female performers dance along an edge where deeply embodied movement practices tip into alternate states of consciousness. The Alt.terre is a conjuring, an incantation to bring forth the possibility of other worlds.

The space will be open from 4pm-6pm prior to the performance for light refreshments and an open studio. Choreographer Megan Bridge and the dancers will be on-site, warming up and answering questions. The showing will begin at 6pm, followed by a discussion with the artists: Megan, Composer Peter Price, and dancers Meghan Frederick, Rhonda Moore, Tiana Sanders, Mijkalena Smith, and Sheila Zagar.

Support The Alt.terre!

We are raising $3,600 to support this iteration of the creation process. This money goes directly to paying The Alt.terre's dancers, collaborating artists, and administrative project support. Our goal is to raise this amount by May 9th.

About the dancers!

Meghan Frederick (MFA Temple University) is a Philadelphia based dance artist currently dancing with Megan Bridge/Fidget Dance, working collaboratively with Kate Seethaler, and teaching at Drexel and Rowan Universities. Meghan has recently danced with Vanessa Anspaugh, Catherine Galasso, Maya Orchin and others, and was a member of the Brian Brooks Moving Company from 2008-2014.

Rhonda Moore: Trained in Dunham, Classical Ballet, Limòn, and Cunningham techniques, combined with concentrated studies in West African percussion and classical piano performance, I explore, celebrate, and (hopefully) transmit the communicative and transformative power of dance in all its forms--sound, sign, and motion.

Tiana Sanders is a teaching dance artist specializing in African dance, Hip-Hop and Modern dance styles from Wilmington, Delaware. She is a senior BFA student at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as a dance major. She received her Associate’s degree in General Business from Delaware Technical Community College in August 2021. Tiana has trained under Dara Meredith, LaCeda Nelson, Raye Jones Avery, Shawn Lamere Williams, Charon Mapp, Kun-Yang Lin, Kyle Clark, Megan Bridge, Ephrat Asherie and more.

Mijkalena (Mijka) Smith is a Philadelphia-based dance artist originating from Elverson, Pennsylvania. Earning her BFA in Dance from Temple University, Mijka has trained in Ballet, Modern, African Diasporic, Hip Hop, and Improvisational techniques. Mijka has had the honor of studying under renowned dancers and choreographers such as Clyde Evans, Kyle Clark, Kun-Yang Lin, Merion Ramirez, and Megan Bridge of Fidget. Mijka’s current interest is in integrating poetry, movement, and music to create a rich artistic experience.

Sheila Zagar: Both as a teacher and performer I am about the empowerment of individuals through acts of creative expression. I have spent my life dancing and using languages of dance to tell human stories rooted in memory and possibility and in the practice of being changed through the process of dancing and telling.
